" The centre is managed by extremely dedicated, helpful and friendly staff with their loyal volunteers. They also have a lovely garden space at the front of the church which can be used for events and classes in the warmer Summer months."
Children’s Centres are service hubs where children under five and their families can receive integrated multi-agency services and information.
In 2007 partnership work started between the Tarner Children’s Centre and Cornerstone Community Centre. This collaboration culminated with the launch in 2008 of the Gateway Children’s centre at Cornerstone Community Centre. As Gateway CC, Cornerstone offers the following services:
Weekly drop in healthy child clinic where parents/carers can get advice,
guidance, information and support.
Weekly baby and you group invite only. This is a 6 week programme for all first
time parents/carers. To book a space phone 01273 296700.
Weekly Cornerstone Pre-walker group, parents-lead drop in group for
parents/carers
Parenting group/training/courses at various times throughout the year.
Thanks to this closer collaboration, targeted local families including low income, single parents, etc, have been better identified and quickly sign-posted to relevant services.
Furthermore, a designated Parent Information notice-board has been installed in the centre’s lobby, so that families can access a comprehensive variety of information about children’s services in the area. This includes a regular updated list of job vacancies in children’s services across the city provided by the FIS (Family Information Service) and training/courses opportunities for parents. In line with the Brighton and Hove Council, the Cornerstone aims to tackle inequality among its citizens through its commitment to offer the best start in life to children and young people.
